I've dug up a stout walking stick from the woodpile and have started sketching and shaving away. I'm taking tons of photos this time, and might even post a step-by-step tutorial if things go well.
Gorges, you raise an interesting point. While I'm certainly no pagan, and mean no offense by carving woodspirits, symbols such as this do have meaning.
As a Christian myself, the woodspirit is meaningless. I see it as a decorative object, nothing more. Some folks refuse to have a Christmas tree due to it's origins as a pagan symbol. While I respect this point of view I still love a good Christmas tree(and the ornaments I carve for it!)
I love the looks of them, but I would probably never use one due to the pagan ties such carvings have.
